Le retour du réalisme constitue le phénomène saillant de la scène philosophique du début du XXIe siècle. De position réputée impossible, il semble être redevenu éminemment désirable. En Allemagne, en Italie, en France, des aspirations réalistes, différentes et complémentaires, contribuent aujourd'hui à reconfigurer un espace philosophique européen. A quoi, cependant, ces nouveaux réalismes s'opposent-ils ? Il y a encore quelques années, il y aurait eu des raisons de dire que la polarité de la philosophie contemporaine n'était plus celle de ce que les Modernes avaient respectivement appelé « idéalisme » et « réalisme », mais peut-être du réalisme et du constructivisme, par exemple. En effet, si le réalisme avait été, au XXe siècle, régulièrement stigmatisé comme la position non-philosophique par excellence par la philosophie dite continentale, bien rares étaient les philosophes qui se réclamaient de l'idéalisme et ce concept ne semblait plus désigner une option philosophique vivante. Or, aujourd'hui, notamment du fait des récents développements de la philosophie allemande, ce n'est plus le cas. A côté des différentes formes de nouveau réalisme, un certain type de néo-idéalisme est en train de fleurir, sans qu'il soit facile de savoir dans quelle mesure l'un et l'autre s'opposent. Cet ouvrage, en offrant une introduction à la philosophie allemande en train de se faire, essaie de comprendre si une telle opposition est encore pertinente ou le redevient.

De in Taiwan geboren en in Londen gevestigde fotografe Yolanda Y. Liou werkt in haar fotoboek 'Thank You For Playing With Me' drie jaar lang samen met Enam Ewura Adjoa Asiama en Vanessa Russell om fotografisch samen te spelen."Toen ik opgroeide in Taiwan, was de druk om te voldoen aan een schoonheidsstandaard in Azië meedogenloos en dat eiste een tol van mij, zowel lichamelijk als geestelijk. Ik probeerde meer te lijken op de perfecte mensen die ik in de media zag, zodat ik me meer waardig zou voelen voor liefde.Toen ik foto's begon te maken, raakte ik geobsedeerd door het vastleggen van mooie mensen - op de conventionele ideale manier van de maatschappij. Later besefte ik dat ik mijn eigen worsteling met een laag zelfbeeld compenseerde en begon ik de onderliggende motivaties en de oorsprong van mijn perceptie van schoonheid in twijfel te trekken en na te denken over mijn intentie als fotograaf.In 2019 kwam ik Enams Instagram-profiel tegen en werd ik betoverd door haar charisma. Ik herkende haar zelfvertrouwen op dat moment niet - lekker in je vel zitten. Toen klikte het ineens - ik ben fotograaf. Ik creëer beelden. Beelden creëren mij niet. Ik wilde iets doen. Ik wilde laten zien dat er meer is. Ik wilde mensen een goed gevoel over zichzelf geven.Ik stelde Enam voor om een fotoshoot te doen en ze nodigde haar beste vriendin Vanessa uit om mee te doen. Ik vroeg hen om zich authentiek uit te drukken. De hele dag door fotografeerden we van buiten naar binnen en experimenteerden we met onze eigen stijlen en rekwisieten. Toen het voorbij was, werd ik overweldigd door vreugde en warmte, alsof ik de hele dag met mijn zussen had gespeeld. Friedrich Schiller is justly celebrated for his dramas and poetry. Yet, above all, he was a polymath, whose writings enriched a range of fields including history and philosophy. Until now, no comprehensive accounting of this philosophy has been undertaken. Antonino Falduto is Lecturer (tenured Associate Professor) in Philosophy at the University of Ferrara, Italy. He is the author and editor of numerous works on the philosophy of Enlightenment (including The Faculties of the Human Mind and the Case of Moral Feeling in Kant's Philosophy, Berlin/Boston 2014). Tim Mehigan is Professor of German in the School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Queensland, Australia, and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities. He is the author of Heinrich von Kleist: Writing after Kant (2011), Robert Musil and the Question of Science (2020) and co-translator of K.L. Reinhold's New Theory of the Human Capacity for Representation (2011).
